MATIBIDI OUR HOME: KADISHI WETLAND AND RIVER

Kadishi Wetland and River

Kadishi Wettland, it is a wetland with great memories, i can tell that almost everyone born in Matibidi from and below the 1990s has some great and amazing memories. This was the source of water supply in Matibidi. The wetland produced fresh water and till this day the water is still fresh. People bathed and washed their clothes. Animals- sheep, cattle, goats got their water from the river or wetland. This name evolved from shepards, as they herd, tend and guard their animals there, formally in Sepedi the Badishi. As i was growing up especially in the 1990s our parents used to warn us not to play at the river as they fear there is danger, this was just a wind to our ears. This river was our play ground, where we climbed trees, caught frogs and those who can swim swam. We fished in the river and we used to get black clay in the river for making our toys, a lot lot was done at the river. Time gone, is gone and it cannot be replaced however memories created should always be treasured in our hearts. I see time were story telling, seating around fire in the dark or glowing moonlight is more like over, yet i feel pleasant memories create time passed to present, since the hearer experiences time or memories when shared. The foundation is the wetland and river, it is so sad in my eyes as the wetland appears to be dying and the river drying. Wetland is a land mark with great history, the Mapulana and Bapedi got supply of water there and the farmers who arrived in Matibidi settled next to the Watland. In 1971 a school was formed and was named Kadishi Seconday School and is situated next to the Kadishi Wetland.
